Dedication

This is perhaps the most important topic of all. It is in the vineyard that everything happens, this is where wine is born, and that is why Ribafreixo Wines is dedicated to the sustainable planning of the vineyards that make up its estate.

The 114 hectares of vineyard belonging to Ribafreixo Wines are part of the sub-region of Vidigueira, which reveals a set of specificities that make the conditions for wine production unique in that territory: perfect sun exposure, with hot and dry temperatures in the summer and accompanied by the freshness of the Atlantic breezes. Added to this microclimate are the schist soils characteristic of our estate, which in turn originate wines full of freshness and minerality.

Passion

Complementing all these features is the importance of the irrigation system, an extremely important factor for the health and sustainability of the vineyard. Taking advantage of our privileged location close to the Alqueva dam (which has a 250 km² reservoir and over 1100 km of banks, being the largest artificial lake in Europe), our irrigation zone is fed by the irrigation system of the dam, through the Alvito/Pisão block. At the same time, it became necessary to build a drainage system on the ground to compensate for the lack of slope of certain plots, so that they would not be damaged by humidity during periods of heavy rain.
