Ribafreixo Wines pays homage to Alicante Bouschet grape and to the land where it shines like nowhere else, in a special “ two in one” launch

Check the launching video of this wine – Launch HMB

Ribafreixo Wines, has two reasons this week to celebrate: the launch of a new top-quality wine, but also the birth of a new range in its portfolio.

Herdade do Moinho Branco Alicante Bouschet is a limited edition of 3116 numbered bottles and Ribafreixo Wines’ strong bet on a varietal that is typical to the region and near and dear to our hearts. The unmatched quality and outstanding character of the 2014 harvest persuaded Ribafreixo to launch its first-ever single varietal red  to celebrate this queen of the Alentejo. More than just a top-end wine, it is a sincere homage to the fact that this variety chose the Alentejo to display all its splendour and potential as in no other place.

The HMB Alicante Bouschet – which was released last Thursday but has already collected 92 Wine Enthusiast points, and has also been highlighted as a “Cellar Selection” – is an impressive wine fermented in barrel and aged in new French oak for 18 months and 26 more in bottle.

The nose reveals a charming bouquet of berries, blueberries and ripe dark fruits, that is fresh and captivating. Some secondary notes are denoted like toast, balsamic vinegar, liquorice and fresh coffee from the extensive oak ageing. The palate is dense and silky with firm ripe tannins and wild berries, as well as the acidity that guarantees the balance and freshness. A complex and full-bodied wine, with the ideal intensity and concentration for a fantastic in bottle evolution.

As for the brand that is now born, it is also a tribute to the Land and to the People. The name Moinho Branco , or “White Mill”, preserves the building’s original name  among local residents who, in bygone days,  used the nearby  stream to mill the grains they produced. We pay now tribute to this wonderful piece of land and its ancestors – being the white mill a symbol of their hard work and perseverance.

This “two in one” launch took place last October 11th at the Faz Figura Restaurant in Lisbon, with the presence of some illustrious guests, including press and customers, but also with the participation of Ribafreixo’s team, namely the winemaker Paulo Laureano and also Mário Pinheiro and Nuno Bicó, the owners of Ribafreixo Wines.
