50 Great Portuguese Wines selected for Norway by British wine critique Julia Harding, Master of Wine and assistant to Jancis Robinson, were presented today (October 30th) in Oslo – Norway.
The list of the 50 Top Portuguese Wines was announced during a ceremony for industry professionals, distinguishing wines for their authenticity and high quality. Pato Frio Grande Escolha 2015, made 100% from Antão Vaz grapes from old vines in the Vidigueira area and aged in French oak barrels, was among the day’s list of exclusive wines. Julia Harding notes that the wine is a worthy representative of the Vidigueira sub-region with its “terrific depth of fruit that is finely melded to the mealy, creamy texture of the oak and excellent freshness. A long way to go, knowing how well this variety can age.”
The 50 Great Portuguese Wines event was started some years ago by Viniportugal and aims to promote Portuguese wines for their quality and variety across a wide range of markets to advocate the image of Portuguese wine outside the country. Pato Frio Grande Escolha 2015 has already been awarded 2 Gold medals at the Mundusvini and Vinhos de Portugal contests, scoring above average in the wine press at large (Jancis Robinson, Andreas Larsson, Revista de Vinhos, Vinho Grandes Escolhas, etc.), underscoring unanimously the outstanding excellence of this specimen of this noble native grape from Vidigueira
