CHINA WINE AWARDS 2017
An election for the CWSA Portuguese Wine of the Year, a double gold medal, three gold medals and a bronze medal are the rewards Ribafreixo Wines has brought home from another participation at the China Wine Awards competition, one of the largest and most prestigious wine competitions worldwide.
The stars this year were our red wines, proving yet again that even though Vidigueira is a region renowned for its white wines, the red wines made here set equally high standards worthy of wine racks everywhere in the world. This includes the CWSA Portuguese Wine of the Year title and the Double Gold Medal- the maximum distinction in that competition- awarded directly to a wine that is being launched now, and which despite its youth was already considered perfect on the palate by those who tasted it. A blend made from Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez and Tinta Miúda, Gáudio Clássico 2014 is a remarkably aromatic wine with exquisite notes of black fruits, some floral hints, mint, toast and green coffee. Tasting confirms the wine’s balanced body, enhanced by firm, robust tannins, which make it pleasurable and durable. This wine is without a doubt creating high expectations, and we are looking forward to its forthcoming launch.
No less important are the other wines that were awarded Gold: Pato Frio Red Edition 2014 – the only red wine in the Pato Frio range, made from Aragonez, Alfrocheiro and Alicante Bouschet-, our top-of-the-range Gáudio Reserva 2013 – a gorgeous combination of Alicante Bouschet and Touriga Nacional – and last but not least, our Gáudio Alvarinho 2016, an Alvarinho made in the Alentejo. The Bronze Medal went directly to the recently launched Barrancôa Tinto 2014. With their highly distinctive profiles, exceptional levels of quality and meticulousness for which our winery is well renowned, these wines are bound to please even the most demanding wine consumers everywhere.
For Mário Pinheiro, CEO of Ribafreixo Wines, this is further acknowledgment underpinning and rewarding the company’s hard and relentless work worldwide. ‘It is indeed excellent to see a market as different as the Asian one distinguish Portuguese wines with such high honours. This is showing us that we are on the right track, beginning to position our brands and products for a bright future at a global level!”
